Nepal earthquake: Death toll passes 4,800 as rescuers face
challenges
In Nepal more
than 4,800 people dead. More than 9,200 injured. Eight million affected across
Nepal. One million children urgently in need of help.
Those are the startling numbers that
indicate the scale of the devastation from the huge earthquake that struck the
Himalayan nation on Saturday.
And some of the grim figures are likely to
get even worse as hopes of rescuing any more survivors diminish every hour.
'Many people are
crying'
Elsewhere in the city, many shaken
residents are sleeping in the open. Some have lost their homes, others are
afraid to stay in buildings that may be vulnerable to aftershocks.
Villagers
trapped, crushed in their homes
Drava’s of World Vision said he had
been told of frightening levels of damage in villages in the region surrounding
Gurkha district, which is near the earthquake's epicenter. They included one
where 35 out of 45 homes were destroyed and another where 70% of the houses had
collapsed, trapping and crushing the people inside, most of them children and
the elderly.
Terrain, weather
hamper relief efforts
Nepali Home Ministry Joint Secretary Sager
Mani Parajuli, who is coordinating relief efforts, said government efforts to
get aid to remote areas had been hampered by rugged terrain and poor weather,
which limits the use of helicopters.

Nepal earthquake caused many people died or became homeless. They lost their families and house. This event reminds me of 921 earthquake. Although I didn’t undergo the earthquake, many people still remember the hurt caused by 921 earthquake. The hurt is permanent. So I hope people in Nepal can recover their lives quickly.
回覆刪除Nepal Earthquake was really horrible. They not only lost their home but also lost their beloved family. The destroys of natural disasters can't be neglected. People should always prepare well anytime in order to reduce damages to the lowest, or it would be very dangerous.

Although scourge can't be prevent, Nepal earthquake is really scary, just like 921 earthquake in Taiwan in 1998.It lets many people died and damage many family, all of the scene are people who didn't want to see.So the earthquake was done, we still need to prevent for preparation
